Description

Toolsa DDB 30 — 3000 W brushless drive for stand-mounted core drilling

The DDB 30 is our diamond core drill motor for the up-to-250 mm class, designed for stand-mounted work. It combines a 3000 W brushless drive with a three-speed gearbox (620, 1330 and 2680 rpm) and 40 Nm of torque at the spindle. The whole motor weighs 6.4 kg, so one operator can carry it and mount it on the column without help.

No brushes, no downtime for replacing them

In a conventional commutator motor the carbon brushes wear and must be replaced regularly. In the DDB 30 the rotor is driven by electronics, so that wear part simply does not exist. Lower energy losses give, according to factory data, 25% higher cutting efficiency than a brushed version, and the motor heats up more slowly over a series of deep holes.

A gear for every bit diameter

We match the speed to the circumference of the core bit so that the diamond segments cut at the right surface speed. First gear handles holes up to 200 mm in concrete and 250 mm in brick, second up to 100 and 130 mm, third up to 60 and 80 mm.

Two clutches and an oil-filled gearbox

Start-up is managed by an electronic clutch with a microcontroller: it limits the inrush current and prevents the spindle from kicking. If the bit hits rebar and jams, the mechanical clutch disengages the drive before the torque reaches the stand. The gears run in an oil bath that lubricates them and carries heat away.

Connections and power

The spindle has a 1 1/4" UNC outer thread, which takes most concrete core bits, and a G 1/2" inner thread for smaller diameters. Cooling water connects through a G 1/4" fitting. The motor runs on 230 V, 50–60 Hz mains and draws 13.5 A, so a standard site socket on a 16 A breaker is enough.

Where it sits in the Toolsa motor range

The DDB 30 sits between the DD 22 (2200 W, up to 220 mm, 9.5 kg) and the DD 33 (3300 W, up to 400 mm, 15.3 kg). It has 800 W more than the DD 22 and is about 3 kg lighter. For handheld drilling there is the DDB 26 core drill with the same type of drive.

Stand and fixing

The motor mounts on the DS 250 stand: 900 mm column, 600 mm travel and bits up to 252 mm. The stand base is anchored with a bolt or held by suction with the VP 120 vacuum pump when the surface is smooth and you do not want to drill an extra hole.

Motor only or a complete rig?

If you already have a stand, the DDB 30 motor on its own is enough. If you are building a setup from scratch, choose the DSB250-30 core drill rig, the DDB 30 factory-paired with the DS 250 stand. Other models are in the stand-mounted core drills category.

Questions and answers

What hole diameters can the Toolsa DDB 30 motor drill?

On a stand, the Toolsa DDB 30 drills holes up to 250 mm in diameter. The range depends on gear and material: in first gear (620 rpm) up to 200 mm in concrete and 250 mm in brick, in second (1330 rpm) up to 100 and 130 mm, in third (2680 rpm) up to 60 and 80 mm.

How does a brushless core drill motor differ from a brushed one?

A brushless motor, like the one in the Toolsa DDB 30, has no carbon brushes or commutator, so there are no brushes to replace. The rotor is driven by electronics, which reduces losses and heat. According to factory data, the DDB 30 achieves 25% higher cutting efficiency than a comparable brushed design at a weight of 6.4 kg.

Which stand does the DDB 30 work with?

The Toolsa DDB 30 motor works with the Toolsa DS 250 stand, which has a 900 mm column, 600 mm travel and takes bits up to 252 mm. The same pair is available factory-assembled as the Toolsa DSB250-30 core drill rig. For holes above 250 mm, use the DD 33 motor with the DS 400 stand.

What threads does the Toolsa DDB 30 spindle have?

The Toolsa DDB 30 spindle has a 1 1/4" UNC outer thread, the standard for concrete core bits, and a G 1/2" inner thread for smaller bits. Cooling water is fed through a G 1/4" fitting. This lets you fit core bits from most manufacturers without extra adapters.

What power supply does the DDB 30 need?

The Toolsa DDB 30 runs on single-phase 230 V mains at 50–60 Hz. It draws 13.5 A at 3000 W, so a socket on a 16 A breaker is enough. The soft start of the electronic clutch limits inrush current and reduces the risk of tripping the breaker.

What protects the operator if the core bit jams?

The Toolsa DDB 30 has a mechanical clutch that disengages the drive when the bit jams in rebar, before the 40 Nm torque reaches the stand and the operator. A second, electronic clutch with a microcontroller provides a soft start without the spindle kicking.
