An electric heater warms without burning anything: current becomes heat at the element, and a fan distributes it around the room. No carbon monoxide is produced and no water vapour, so the machine needs no flue, no ventilation and no fuel — and it is the only type of space heater that may run in an enclosed room with no further conditions attached.

The whole selection comes down to the supply. The TA-ER2C, TA-ER3C and TA-ES3 at 2 and 3 kW run from an ordinary 230 V socket, while the TA-ER9 and TA-ER15 — 9 and 15 kW — need a three-phase 400 V supply. The dividing line falls exactly where a standard plug runs out of capacity: 3 kW draws about 13 A, which is the full rating of a domestic plug and fuse.
That translates directly into the size of space each machine will handle. Single-phase units cover up to 60 m³ — one workstation, a welfare cabin, a small office. Three-phase models reach 180 and 300 m³, which covers a typical workshop or a small industrial unit. Above that the advantage passes to diesel machines, because 30 kW of heat cannot be drawn from any standard installation.

What comes of not burning anything
An electric heater produces no combustion products, so every restriction that governs where a diesel machine may stand simply falls away. There is no flue to run, no air-change rate to maintain and no need to watch for carbon monoxide building up. The machine can be used in an office, a store holding goods, a welfare cabin or a room under finishing works.
The second consequence is practical: with no fuel there is no refuelling, no carrying cans and no interruption when a tank runs dry. A 63 kW diesel machine needs topping up after about 9 hours of continuous running — an electric one keeps going for as long as it has a supply. For heating overnight or across a weekend, that is usually the deciding argument.
The third difference concerns moisture. Burning diesel produces water vapour, which on a direct-fired machine enters the room along with the heat. An electric heater introduces no moisture at all, which matters wherever the space holds stock sensitive to damp, or where a room is being dried out after a flood.
The line falls at 3 kW
Selection in this category reduces to a single question: is there a three-phase socket where the machine has to work. An output of 3 kW draws around 13 A — the full rating of a standard plug and its fuse. Above that figure the machine must be three-phase, with no exceptions and no way round it using an extension lead.

The lowest setting on every model — from 20 to 85 W — runs the fan alone with the element off. In summer that turns the machine into a plain cooling fan, and in winter it airs the room and lets the element cool down after work finishes.
The middle setting is where these machines spend most of their working life. A TA-ER15 set to 7 kW draws about 10 A instead of 22, which is often the only way to run it on an installation with a limited supply. Warming up takes longer, but nothing trips — and for holding a temperature rather than raising it, the lower setting is entirely sufficient.
Airflow and noise
Output says how much heat the machine makes; airflow says how quickly it moves that heat around the room. The proportions in the table show the difference: the TA-ER15 has five times the output of the TA-ER3C but only three and a half times the airflow. That gives a hotter stream thrown further, which is an advantage across an industrial unit and a cause of uneven temperature in a small room.
Noise rises with airflow. The 45 and 46 dB of the 3 kW models is a level people can work and hold a conversation alongside all day. The 61 dB of the largest machine is comparable to loud speech and would be wearing in an office — in a production hall, where background levels are higher anyway, it is immaterial. Where a machine has to stand in a room with people at desks, two smaller units are the better answer than one large one.
The elements in the TA-ER9 and TA-ER15 are finned stainless steel. Finning increases the surface giving off heat, so the element runs cooler for the same output — it does not scorch settled dust or give off the burnt smell typical of the first run after a long period standing idle.
Where an electric heater falls short
The limit is output. A unit 6 m high covering 200 m² holds 1 200 m³ — four times what the largest machine in this category will handle. In a building of that size an electric heater will warm a working position but will not lift the temperature of the whole space, and no number of smaller units changes that, because the constraint becomes the electrical installation rather than the machines.
The second limit is the cost of energy under continuous running. Taking the chill off for a few hours a day costs little, but holding a temperature through a whole winter with a 15 kW machine means 15 kWh for every hour at full output. Used that way, diesel works out cheaper despite the refuelling.
An electric heater is also no substitute for fixed heating. The heat goes into the air rather than into the fabric of the building: once the machine stops, cold walls and floor absorb it within the hour. In an uninsulated building the temperature holds only while the machine is running.

Which electric heater suits a workshop?
Volume and available supply decide it. A workshop of 60 m² at 3 m high comes to 180 m³ — precisely the range of the TA-ER9 running from a 400 V industrial socket. Without three-phase available, the ceiling is 3 kW and 60 m³: such a machine will warm a working position but not the whole room. It is worth checking the supply before ordering, because bringing three-phase into an existing building usually costs more than the price difference between models.
Can an electric heater be used in an enclosed room?
An electric machine is the only kind of space heater that attaches no conditions here — it burns no fuel, so it produces neither carbon monoxide nor water vapour. It can be run in an office, a welfare cabin, a store or a room with no windows. Among diesel machines only the indirect-fired version offers the same freedom, and then only with the flue correctly run outside. This holds across the whole range, from 2 to 15 kW — output changes nothing here, since none of these machines burns fuel. The one point to observe is keeping clearance from combustible materials on the outlet side.
How much electricity does a 3 kW heater use?
A 3 kW machine draws 3 kWh for every hour at full output — the hourly cost is that figure times your own unit rate. Actual consumption is usually lower, because once the room is warm the 1,5 kW setting is enough, and on fan-only the draw falls to 23–29 W. In current terms 3 kW is about 13 A, effectively the full load of a standard circuit — a second such heater on the same fuse will trip it.
Can a heater be run from an extension lead?
Single-phase models up to 3 kW will run from an extension provided it is fully unwound and its conductors are rated for the 13 A load. A cable reel left coiled under that current heats up and is a common cause of melted insulation. The 9 and 15 kW models are never run from single-phase extensions in any form — they require an industrial socket and a cable of adequate cross-section, sized by an electrician for the length of the run.
Can an electric heater be left running unattended?
With no combustion there is no air exchange to maintain and no fuel level to watch, so running overnight or across a weekend presents no operational difficulty. The conditions are placing the machine where nothing can obstruct the air inlet and outlet, and keeping clearance from combustible materials. A blocked inlet raises element temperature until the thermal cut-out operates, and in the worst case damages the machine. After heating finishes it is worth leaving the machine on its fan-only setting, drawing 20–85 W, until the element has cooled. Specific clearance requirements are given in the manual for each model.
Electric or diesel for an industrial unit?
Above 300 m³ this stops being a matter of preference. The largest electric model is 15 kW, while a unit of 200 m² at 6 m high holds 1 200 m³ and calls for something around 60 kW — an output no standard electrical installation will supply. That leaves a diesel machine, and if the building is closed with people working in it, an indirect-fired one. An electric heater still has a role in such a building, but a different one: warming a specific working area instead of the whole volume.
